Street Fighter II Online Slot Description

Creating a branded slot is rarely an easy undertaking as slot developers are somewhat confined to some sort of reel set that will act as the game window. Achieving the feat with Street Fighter II: The World Warrior is even more challenging as the fights between the proponents are core to the video game. Time to take a closer look at how NetEnt combined the two to create not only a playable but also entertaining slot.

They opted for a 5×5 grid with Avalanches and Cluster Pays mechanics. The grid is set in a pixelated scene reminiscent of the battles in the video game with the chosen fighter on one side and a randomly assigned opponent on the other. Wins are achieved by landing five or more matching symbols connected in a cluster, after which they shatter to create space for new symbols to avalanche into the empty spaces. The process is repeated as long as new winners occur after an avalanche. Getting the warriors to fight starts at 0.20 coins and peaks at a huge 700 coins per spin. All to a medium volatility with an RTP range from 96.02 – 96.08% based on which warrior is selected.

For the pay symbols, they turned to the usual playing cards from J to A and complemented them with warrior icons. The selected fighter and the randomly assigned opponent each have two pay symbols – a victory and a defeat symbol. The top pays are awarded for clusters of 16+ symbols and range between 10x to 60x your stake. There are no scatters while wilds will appear only via the in-game modifier feature.

Street Fighter II: The World Warrior Gameplay and Features

The entire gameplay is mirroring the action from the original video game by pitting one chosen character against an opponent and letting the reels determine the winner. Before the start, you have

to select one of eight fighters – Dhalsim, E. Honda, Ryu, Guile, Zangief, Chun Li, Blanka or Ken – to battle it out on the reels. One of the seven remaining characters will be randomly chosen as your opponent. Each character and opponent have Victory and Defeat symbols. Hitting winning clusters with the character’s symbols will deal damage to the opponent, while the opponent’s symbols deal damage to your fighter. Damage is displayed on the Health Points bar on top of the grid. The bar has 75 points for each fighter and the one reaching zero first will lose the battle.

While fighting your opponent, keep an eye on the Wild Gauge placed on top of your warrior. Each character symbol landing in a winning cluster will add one point to the bar and filling it up with seven points will trigger the Wild Combo feature. A number of random wilds will be added to the reels according to a defined pattern for each fighter. Triggers can stack up, giving you multiple Wild Combo features in a row.

Losing a battle will award the Car Smash bonus game where your fighter can trash a car to collect coin wins. Each hit is worth 1x to 5x your bet. Once finished, you will return to the selection screen where you can choose to carry on with the same fighter or select any of the other seven for the next battle.

The main event is triggered when you win your battle. The Beat The Boss Free Spins feature comes with unlimited spins and four levels. The gameplay, wild gauge and cluster mechanics remain unchanged. Losing a battle will end the round while winning one will advance you to the next boss. The battles are in the order Balrog, Vega, Sagat, M. Bison with win multipliers of 2x, 3x, 5x and 10x respectively. The Health Meter has only 25 points for your warrior and opponent while beating the final boss will be rewarded with an extra coin win of 100x your bet.

There is one more twist when you lose your battle although the feature is restricted in some jurisdictions. Everywhere else, the Insert Coin gamble feature can trigger randomly after you lost a battle. You can now decide to forfeit a good part of your total winnings from the free spins and repeat the last battle or press collect.

Street Fighter II: The World Warrior Conclusion

Hadouken! Have to repeat the famed battle cry as the gameplay on this slot is indeed a nostalgic return to the 1990s blockbuster. NetEnt went to great length to combine the battles with the action on the reels and aligned the main features with events from the video game. Very entertaining to play although a higher max win potential would have been welcome.
